Westbank hosts local Red Hat Society(TM) Luncheon
“Donning a red hat seems to make you smile more.” – local Red Hat Society Queen
What do you get when you mix red with purple and add a splash of joy and spontaneous fun? The incredible ladies of the Red Hat Society(TM)!
On Tuesday, April 25th, five Westside chapters of the Red Hat Society joined together to celebrate the 8th anniversary of the Red Hat Society. And what a celebration it was! Over 50 women, dressed to the nines in red hats, purple outfits, feathers, and zany jewels, met for lunch, great conversation, laughter, and just for the fun of it.
What is this Red Hat Society? I went to their website to investigate:
“Welcome to the place where there is fun after fifty (and before) for women of all walks of life. We believe silliness is the comedy relief of life and, since we are all in it together, we might as well join red-gloved hands and go for the gusto together. Underneath the frivolity, we share a bond of affection, forged by common life experiences and a genuine enthusiasm for wherever life takes us next.” – from The Red Hat Society website
Each chapter sets up its own rules (there are no rules) and activities. Local chapters enjoy everything from luncheons, dates with friends, chartered bus tours to places such as Silver Star for lunch and Harrison Hot Spring to see the sandcastles in September. Birthdays are a special occasion. And no red hatter turns down the opportunity for “girl chatter.”
For more information about how to locate a local chapter, go to the Red Hat Society webpage. Look for “Chapter Search” (along the left hand side of the page). You’ll be asked to enter a province, read search terms and conditions, and then select “SEARCH.” A choice of first letters of cities appears. Clicking on “W,” then “Westbank” shows 4 local chapters. Peachland currently has 2, Summerland has 2, and Kelowna has 14.
