Central Okanagan Miniature Enthusiasts Westbank Show
“We like small things.” – a local miniaturist
If they can dream it, they can shrink it. Welcome to tiny world of the Central Okanagan Miniature Enthusiasts. This group of creative men and women design and build in 1/12 to 1/44 scale. From simple groupings to complex dollhouses, nothing is left out of their small world.
On April 29th, 2006 their world got a little larger as over 14 dealers from across British Columbia and Alberta descended upon Westbank for the 3rd Annual Dollhouse and Miniature Show.
Local club members from Vernon to Peachland displayed their own vignettes, dollhouses, room boxes, and miniatures. Enthusiasts from Penticton and Kamloops also participated in the display.
Dealers offered an assortment of hand-made and commercial products for both novice and experienced miniaturists. Completed homes, wallpaper, rugs, furnishings, dishes, detailed mini-paintings, accessories, and other decorating touches were available to anyone tackling small scale interior decorating. Tiny families complete with their pets, clothing, food, toys, books, and toothbrushes were ready to move in. Nothing has been left out of this world.
One miniature artist, Kim Mathews from Penticton, brought her exquisite collection of foods, feasts, chocolates, and other goodies. A sign, “Don’t eat the food!” tells the story. Her realistic food sculptures, crafted and painted by hand, have been featured on CBC Television’s ‘On the Road Again,’ in American Miniature Magazine, and are included in the Kansas City Museum of Toys and Miniatures permanent collection.
